Mozart Poster The Best of Mozart is a collaboration between The Acting Company and Borgamaria Lyric Opera.  It is an evening of selections from Mozart’s most beloved operas.  It is the first such collaboration of what is hoped will be many more in the future. The concert is under the direction of Jaoquina Calvo Johnson, founder of Borgamaria Lyric Opera.   For this one-time concert, some of the best operatic singers in the country will appear on the stage of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.

Among the featured singers is Ukrainian born coloratura soprano Svetlana Nikitenko.   While training as a conservatory student with the Mussorgsky Theater of Opera and Ballet in Petersburg, Russia, she began her professional career.  In addition to her many credits singing in Europe, she has floored audiences in the United States in her roles which include:  Marzeline in Beethoven’s Fidelio; the title role of  Serpentina in the world premier of the opera for Berkeley Opera; Dew Fairy and Sandman (Hansel and Gretel) at the San Francisco Opera Center;  and Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute for San Francisco Opera, a role that earned her wild applause for her performance of the Queen of the Night’s Aria (Der Holle Rache).  Future engagements include Lucia with NBO and Queen of the Night at Opera  in the San Jose production of The Magic Flute.

Every performance in the performing arts is valuable to the community but this one is special since it will signal the beginning of something significant in our region.
